"This Might Not Work": Leading Out On A Limb

“This might not work.”

When was the last time you uttered this statement on something you’ve worked on?

Author Seth Godin wrote, “When you’re out on a limb, when you are doing important work, you will say to yourself, ‘this might not work.’ At some level, ‘this might not work’ is at the heart of all important projects, of everything new and worth doing.”

In these situations, we’re all too often tempted to press pause, to freeze, to give up, to stop our efforts. We fear it might fail.

Seth’s right. Keep going. Draw on your courage. Go out on a limb. Yeah, sure - it might not work. So what? Try it anyway. That’s where the really important stuff actually happens. And it’s also where we grow the most as leaders – and as human beings.
